BMS PTO INFORMATION:
Is there anyone interested in serving as the BMS PTO President or Treasurer? If so, please email Mr. Asher.
Did you know that the BMS Parent Teacher Organization funds many of the wonderful activities that our students and teachers enjoy at Burley? Last year, the PTO provided over $13,000 for programs such as academic resources, field trips, Creative Design, Teacher Appreciation, and the Eighth Grade Dance. However, we cannot do this without you! How can you help?
The Burley PTO has a direct donation program instead of repeated fundraisers (i.e., selling cookie dough, magazines, wrapping paper, etc.). The PTO asks each family to donate what they can, whether it be $5 or $50 or more. These donations are tax-deductible and every penny goes back into the Burley community. Please visit our table at the Open House (on 8/20) or send an envelope with your name and payment to the office. A copy of the PTO donation card is attached.
Do you shop at Giant, Kroger, or Harris Teeter? You can link your rewards card to Burley and a portion of your grocery bill will earmarked for the school. Last year, Giant Rewards provided over $4000 to Burley. You can link online or call.

NOTE: If there are any issues with the codes above, I believe you can also connect to Burley by entering or searching for the school’s name.
There is also Amazon Smile, the charitable portal for Amazon. Go to www.smile.amazon.com and enter your Amazon account information. You can then designate Jackson P Burley Middle School as your charity. Bookmark the page so you remember to do all of your ordering through that portal. Amazon will send 0.5% of your eligible purchases to Burley.
You can also volunteer to help with many of the school events. A PTO Volunteer form is also attached.
OTHER INFORMATION:
A REMINDER: We did “go green” a couple of years ago, and for the most part, we are paperless. Parents need a “Parent Portal” account to see information related to student grades, attendance, and schedules. If you do not have information to set up a Parent Portal account, please stop by the school between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to pick up the information. This must be done in person, and the parent must show valid ID to receive it.
A REMINDER ABOUT SCHEDULES: When student schedules are available, please remember that they are subject to change. As we receive new and/or transfer students, balance classes, work out needs of IEPs, and more, we do at times have to make changes with class assignments.
As you know, our Open House is scheduled for Monday, August 20th, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
* There is no planned program on that evening. This is just an opportunity for parents and students to walk through the building and learn where classes are.
* Be sure to PRINT your student’s schedule that day (in case any changes were made after schedules were posted) and bring it with you (and/or you can access it online via a mobile device with the Power School app).
STUDENT LAPTOPS: We will issue laptops to 7th & 8th Grade students on the first day of school. 6th graders will receive their laptops on Thursday, 8/23. In order to take a laptop home, a student must return a signed copy of the Laptop Agreement. However, I understand that the form is being updated for the 2018-2019 school year, so once I have the latest copy, I will send it out.
STUDENT SCHOOL PICTURE DAY: Friday, September 14, 2018.
RETAKES &/OR PICS FOR ABSENT STUDENTS: Monday, October 15, 2018.
A reminder to parents of 6th graders: we MUST have your student’s T-DAP verification on file. Without this information, your student cannot start school. If your student arrives at school, and we do not have the T-DAP information, we are required to call a parent to come and pick the student up. PLEASE make sure we have the necessary documentation before school starts.
See you on the 20th!
