A Few New Announcements
Before we all head off to our “virtual Spring Break,” I just have few announcements with new information to share with you:
A to Z School Closure Information is HERE.
Book Clubs: Our librarian, Mr. Hipple, will be launching digital book clubs after Spring Break that will meet and discuss books over a distance. This is a completely voluntary activity for students who miss the social aspect of talking about the books they're reading with friends. Students will choose what books we read and Mr. H will coordinate obtaining digital copies for all interested students that they can read on their laptops, tablets, Kindles, or phones. If your student would like to participate, please have them email Mr. H at [email protected].
Technology Support for Students and Families During Extended Closure: The Department of Technology will support student and staff devices that may be broken or have technical issues. Any students and families that are experiencing issues with an ACPS-issued device may contact the ACPS Service Desk by phone at 434-975-9444 so a support ticket can be generated. The Technology Support Specialist (TSS) staff will work remotely with the person to address the laptop issue(s). If the laptop is not repairable remotely, the TSS staff will provide a “laptop exchange” by appointment in one of our high school parking lots.
Grades for Students in High School Credit Classes in Middle School: This information is for parents of students who are taking Geometry, Algebra 1, and Spanish as an 8th Grader: Parents of high schoolers received information related to the continuity of learning once we return from Spring Break. They received both a letter (attached to this email) and additional information HERE (in English) and HERE (in Spanish). Please review this information, and let your teachers, counselor or me know if you have any questions. NOTE: On the linked document, you really only need to review the section on grading.
Meals for students: Albemarle County Public Schools is adding two additional sites to its breakfast and lunch distribution program beginning Monday, April 6. The new locations are Broadus Wood Elementary School and the Four Seasons complex, in the lower parking lot parallel to Four Seasons Drive. More information is HERE.
Have a relaxing week next, and then I will be in touch after that to see how things proceed with our new system of delivering instruction (plus I will follow up on the field trip refunds, the system for those who need to retrieve something form the building, etc.) Thank you for your patience as we work through all of this, and first and foremost – stay healthy! : )
